The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced new rules for its credit card users, effective November 1, 2025.
These rules introduce additional charges on certain types of transactions, particularly those made through
third-party apps.
Key Changes
- Education Payments: A 1% charge will apply if school or college fees are paid using SBI credit cards
via apps like CRED, Cheq, or MobiKwik. Payments made directly through the institution’s official website
or POS machine will remain free of charge. - Wallet Loading: If cardholders load wallets with an amount above ₹1,000, a 1% fee will apply.
This depends on merchant codes set by network partners. - Late Payment Penalty: Failure to pay the minimum monthly balance for two consecutive billing cycles
will attract an additional ₹100 charge per cycle.
Other Charges (Unchanged)
- Cash withdrawal fees
- Cheque payment fees
- Late payment fees (except the new additional penalty)
Important for Customers:
- Plan education fee payments carefully to avoid extra costs.
- Use official school/college websites or POS machines instead of third-party apps.
- Review billing statements regularly to avoid missing minimum due payments.
According to SBI, the new fee structure is intended to improve transparency and help customers
plan their spending better. By managing digital transactions more carefully, SBI also aims to
strengthen its financial management while ensuring fair usage of credit cards.
