ICICI Bank Raises Minimum Average Balance For Savings Accounts From August 1, 2025
ICICI Bank has revised the Minimum Average Balance (MAB) for savings accounts across all branches,
effective August 1, 2025. The new structure makes ICICI’s MAB among the highest in India and affects
customers in metro, urban, semi-urban, and rural locations.
- Metro & Urban: Rs. 50,000 (up from Rs. 10,000)
- Semi-Urban: Rs. 25,000 (up from Rs. 5,000)
- Rural: Rs. 10,000 (up from Rs. 2,500)
What’s Changed
The hike is steepest in metro and urban centers—customers must now keep an average balance that is
five times the previous requirement. Semi-urban and rural categories also see significant increases.
Old vs New MAB (Mobile-Scrollable)
| Branch Category | New MAB (Rs.) | Old MAB (Rs.) | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metro & Urban | 50,000 | 10,000 | +40,000 |
| Semi-Urban | 25,000 | 5,000 | +20,000 |
| Rural | 10,000 | 2,500 | +7,500 |
What Customers Should Do
- Review monthly balances to avoid non-maintenance charges.
- Consider auto-sweep or systematic transfers to keep MAB above the threshold.
- If usage is low, compare products across banks that fit your expected balance levels.
Note: Charges and product features may vary by account type and location. Refer to ICICI Bank’s official schedule of charges for exact fees.
