Maruti, Hyundai, Tata Record Big Numbers on Navaratri Day 1

Price Cuts and Festive Offers Drive Auto Boom

The rollout of GST 2.0 has given Indiaโ€™s automobile sector a massive festive lift. On September 22, which marked the first day of the Navaratri festival, carmakers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors posted record-breaking sales driven by lower tax slabs and festive benefits.

Maruti Suzuki Leads the Surge

Maruti Suzuki India reported nearly 30,000 deliveries on the first day of Navaratri, along with an unprecedented 80,000 enquiries. According to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, customer response was the strongest seen in decades. โ€œDealers are staying open late into the night to deliver cars,โ€ he said, highlighting robust demand for small cars in particular.

Hyundai Hits Five-Year High

Hyundai Motor India recorded around 11,000 dealer billings on the same day, its best single-day performance in five years. COO Tarun Garg credited both the auspicious festival start and GST 2.0 reforms for fuelling strong customer confidence and festive sentiment.

Tata Motors Sees Strong Momentum

Tata Motors reported close to 10,000 car deliveries and more than 25,000 enquiries on Day 1. The company offered benefits up to Rs. 2 lakh on select models such as the Nexon, Safari, Harrier, and Altroz. Chief Commercial Officer Amit Kamat noted a sharp surge in bookings, showroom walk-ins, and conversions, especially for the Nexon and Punch models.

GST 2.0 Tax Benefits Explained

Under the revised GST 2.0 framework, small cars under four metres now attract an 18% tax slab, down from 29โ€“31%. Bigger models and luxury vehicles fall under a 40% slab, compared to 43โ€“50% earlier. Automakers are combining these tax cuts with additional festive discounts to enhance customer savings.

  • Maruti: Price cuts from Rs. 46,400 to Rs. 1.30 lakh
  • Hyundai: Benefits ranging from Rs. 60,640 to Rs. 2.40 lakh
  • Tata: Discounts up to Rs. 2 lakh on SUVs and premium hatchbacks

Festive Sentiment Fuels Auto Sector

The first day of Navaratri under GST 2.0 clearly set the tone for a buoyant festive season. With reduced taxes, higher bookings, and enthusiastic customer response, automakers are preparing for one of the strongest sales periods in recent years. Industry experts say this momentum could sustain through Diwali and beyond.
