Government Launches “Your Money, Your Right” Campaign on Unclaimed Deposits

The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, in coordination with the RBI, IRDAI, SEBI and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), will run a nationwide campaign from October to December 2025 to spread awareness about unclaimed assets in the financial sector.

The campaign, titled “आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार” (Your Money, Your Right), will be inaugurated by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman on 4th October 2025 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

What Are Unclaimed Financial Assets?

Unclaimed financial assets include bank deposits, insurance policy claims, dividends, shares, and mutual fund proceeds that remain untouched due to lack of awareness or outdated account details. Many citizens and legal heirs often miss out on their rightful money.

Campaign Features

  • On-the-spot guidance for citizens to trace unclaimed money and complete claim procedures.
  • Digital tools and demonstrations on updating records and filing claims.
  • Awareness through FAQs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to simplify processes.
  • Encouraging households to actively participate and ensure financial inclusion.

Government’s Commitment

The Government of India emphasized that every rupee saved by citizens must reach them or their legal heirs. This campaign is part of its commitment to empower citizens with the knowledge and tools to claim what is rightfully theirs.

Special Financial Inclusion Exhibition

A financial inclusion exhibition will be held as part of the campaign, featuring banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, and pension institutions. Visitors will get direct access to institutions for queries and claim assistance.
