The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) and its affiliated unit AIBOBOU have announced a symbolic protest to be observed as a Black Day on July 21, 2025, in response to the increasing workload and pressure on bank officers.
In a circular issued to its members, AIBOBOU has directed all bank officers to wear black ribbons on the day as a mark of protest against escalating job stress, toxic work culture, extended working hours, and unrealistic targets being set by bank managements.
The protest is also a response to recent tragic incidents where several bank officers allegedly succumbed to workplace stress, prompting urgent calls for reforms in workload management and better staff welfare policies.
The union emphasized that while the observance is symbolic and will not affect regular banking services, it is a serious call to managements and regulatory authorities to address deep-rooted issues faced by officers across branches, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
AIBOBOU has appealed to all banking fraternity members to support the cause and stand in solidarity with fellow officers, demanding an end to the ‘inhuman’ working conditions and the immediate implementation of measures to ensure mental health, staffing adequacy, and work-life balance.
