Over 2 Lakh Women Empowered Under LIC’s Bima Sakhi Scheme

More than 2 lakh women across India have been enrolled under the Bima Sakhi – Mahila Career Agent (MCA) Scheme, a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India on December 9, 2024. As of July 14, 2025, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has enlisted 2,05,896 Bima Sakhis, providing them with income, career development, and long-term employment opportunities.

The scheme aims to economically empower women by engaging them as LIC agents with the support of a performance-based stipend. In FY 2024–25, LIC disbursed ₹62.36 crore as stipends to Bima Sakhis. For FY 2025–26, the Corporation has earmarked a budget of ₹520 crore, out of which ₹115.13 crore has already been disbursed.

To help women agents build a sustainable career in insurance, LIC offers monthly stipends for the first three years — ₹7000 in the first year, ₹6000 in the second year, and ₹5000 in the third year — in addition to regular commission earnings. The stipend is subject to fulfillment of certain performance criteria.

In a progressive move to expand career horizons, graduate Bima Sakhis who complete five years of service may apply for the post of Apprentice Development Officer (ADO) in LIC, subject to eligibility norms.

The information was shared by Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary during a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.

The scheme reflects LIC’s commitment to empowering women by providing them with financial independence and long-term career growth in the insurance sector.
